Statewide Community Health Assessment Qualitative Data Intern

The Montana Office of Rural Health, in partnership with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) Public Health System Improvement Office, is seeking a motivated university student to support a statewide community health assessment initiative. Interns will assist in organizing and analyzing qualitative data collected from communities across Montana to develop a comprehensive thematic report on community health needs. This internship is a paid position.

We anticipate this will be a semester long project. 

  • Develop and maintain a data directory of qualitative data from community health needs assessments. 
  • Collaborate with project staff to develop and implement a qualitative data analysis plan to identify key trends, strengths, and areas of concern reported by Montana communities. 
  • Support the development of a statewide community health needs summary, highlighting narrative themes. 
  • Contribute to report writing, editing, and quality assurance. 
  • Collaborate with project staff to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with statewide public health priorities. 

 

Your work will play a critical role in helping policymakers, legislators, and health leaders understand the real health needs of Montana’s rural communities. The insights generated through this project will inform policy decisions, guide resource allocation, and support the development of effective public health strategies throughout the state. 

  • Ability to work onsite at MSU Bozeman.
  • Currently enrolled in a university program (public health, sociology, anthropology, health sciences, community health, or related field preferred). 
  • Experience and/or training in qualitative research methods and analysis.  
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. 
  • Detail-oriented, motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team. 

 

Note: All internships offered at the Montana Office of Rural Health and Area Health Education Center are in-person at Montana State University in Bozeman. Unfortunately, we cannot support remote internships at this time.
