Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Training
What is the Montana SANE Training Program?
With the support of HRSA’s ANE-SANE program, the Montana SANE Consortium (MSC) will recruit, train, and certify Registered Nurses (RNs), Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), Forensic Nurses (FNs), and nursing students to practice as sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs).
What is the goal of the program?
- Increase the SANE workforce by 40-50 persons annually.
- Createastatewide approach totraining and supporting asexual assault forensic examinationworkforce.
- Overcome the inherent challenges of Montana’s remote geographies, disenfranchised populations, and impoverished communities using virtual platforms that create a space for ongoing learning andprofessional and personal support amongthe network of SANEs providing care across Montana.
- Address systemic barriers to training and practice through policy examination, engagement of local decision-makers, locally delivered skills training, and financial support.
- Establish a consortium that includes organizations thatrepresentthe state’s vulnerable populations and pulls from the knowledge,expertise,and passion of individuals within those organizations to improve care for survivors of sexual, domestic, and intimate partner violence.
Who is eligible?
- You must be an RN (or higher) to take this course. It its not open to LPNs.
- You must have an NPI number to participate in the program. If you don't have one, you can apply for one here.
